Facebook; it is time to part ways. If only for a little while

[I am tired. Not physically tired, emotionally drained from the sea of turbulent waves known as divisiveness.

I am tired of the hate, through postings in my feed, or comments in posts and in groups.

I am tired of seeing one group take aim at another for their differences.

I am tired of religion being used as an excuse for any behavior: that isn’t my God.

My friends are important to me. I like seeing what is happening in their lives through the glimpses they share. Just as I hope they like to see mine.

But it also feels like we are disconnected. We celebrate small moments of joy and disappointment, but it rarely goes beyond that. There is a loose sense of connection within the veil of social media. But it is really only on the surface.

I am at that point where aside from removing the negativity in my life, like much of what is on Facebook ( and other social media sites), I want to go back to a time where people actually talked to each other. And unfortunately, unless we are on the phone, how do we get back to that in the crazy world we live in.

I am going back to email. Where I can sit and write a letter to a friend or a group of friends. I am going back to text messaging. Yep, good ol’ Google Messages. Maybe Microsoft Teams, maybe event Google Chat. I figure everyone still has email and text messaging, Both of which have come a long way since the text only forms 25 years ago. I want more control over what I see.

Am I going to miss things that my friends share? You bet, because I am moving out of the deep water. And that disappoints me.

But social media is just another form of “instant gratification”, that small dopamine rush, which is quickly overcome by the waves of adrenaline and cortisol created by the fear, hate, and other emotions that is attached to so many posts.

I am de-activating my page for a while. If you want to talk to me, send me a text message or an email.

All the best Facebook (and social media), Eden.]()
